Mount Aconcagua is the highest point in the Western and Southern Hemispheres, with an elevation of 6,961 meters (22,837 ft.), located in the Principal Cordillera of the Andes mountain range. The name Aconcagua comes from the Quechua language, meaning “Stone Sentinel,” for the mountain’s unique geology. The peak consists of various rock types, including granite, andesite and basalt, and is home to several glaciers.
